Callis & Associates’ outdoor sports specialist, Jim Shoemaker, recently participated in the 2011 Shooting Sports Summit, sponsored by the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), in Louisville, Kentucky. The event provided Callis with the opportunity to contribute to the development of the industry and network with key leaders.

Since the first Shooting Sports Summit in the 1990’s, enthusiasts and stakeholders have shared a common goal, to promote, protect and preserve hunting and shooting traditions. With time, the goal has evolved into an aggressive task of increasing participation in hunting and shooting by 20 percent over the next five years. This year’s summit provided attendees with an overview of strategies and tactics to achieve the goal, along with a forum to share new ideas and thoughts.

Among the keynote speakers were Tim Pawlenty, two-term governor of Minnesota, 2012 Republican presidential candidate, and avid supporter of Second Amendment rights. Sharing the importance of the social media customer and the influence they have in the marketplace was social media expert, Brian Solis, best-selling author of the book Engage.

The National Shooting Sports Foundation is a non-profit trade association for the shooting, hunting and outdoor industry. Members of the organization include manufacturers, distributors, retailers, sportsman’s organizations and media within the firearms and shooting sports industry.
