Small steps to big success.
I’m not sure who Robert Collier is, but I read a great quote attributed to him yesterday; “success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out.” I like this. It makes a lot of sense.
At our agency, success is so ingrained in our heads that it’s a part of our mission statement “to be successful through the success of our clients”. We believe this and have seen it first hand as our clients (some of whom have been with us for more that 15 years) have succeeded through amazing growth.
On an individual level, here’s some things I think we can do every day to be successful.
1. Plan your day. Take time each morning to think about what you have to do before you jump in to do it. It will bring clarity and focus to your day and make you more productive.
2. Sit and think. Spend some time just thinking about your clients, what they’re trying to do, what challenges they face and how you can help make their business better.
3. Read. Whether it’s the morning paper with a cup of Joe or your favorite online source, nothing replaces the mental stimulation and ideas that come from filling your brain with information.
4. Exercise. Whether it’s a walk on the treadmill, exercises at your desk or weights at the gym, do something physical every day. It relieves stress, it stimulates ideas and will just make you feel better physically and mentally.
5. Do things you enjoy. Golf. Garden. Travel. Hunt. Carve. Whatever turns you on, do it. You need it.
6. Communicate. Spend time talking with those you love and like. We’re a social breed. Be social.
7. Review your goals. (Hopefully you have them). Ask what you need to do today to achieve your goals and then follow through to get them done.
8. Pray, meditate, etc. This can take away some of the burden you carry and help you to appreciate each moment of each day as the special moment it is.
9. Work hard. Play hard. Businesses need productive workers who get the job done. If it takes extra time, put it in. They’ll be plenty of time to play hard too.
10. Reward yourself. Make sure you’re appreciating what you’ve accomplished. Just don’t go overboard.
Next time, I’m going to present some ideas on things marketing professionals can do to help clients be successful. Until then.
