Finding That Spark
by Kelli Wofford, Business Developer

For a writer, blogs seem like a fun, easy, self-rewarding task to accomplish everyday. But for your not average writer, trying to create a topic for your blogs may sometimes seem like a mental road block. Many times topics come natural but sometimes one needs to look elsewhere to find a great topic that the readers will relate with.  Listed below are the top 10 places a blogger can look when trying to find that motivational spark.

1. Write about the season- Not so much about the weather but seasonal writing can be about sports events, holidays, or timely events that are occurring in your community.

2. Write about YOU- It sounds a little egocentric but good blogs can be personal, opinionated, or even a reflection of your feelings about a certain topic.

3. Listen to music
- Music may help generate ideas creatively.  Sometimes music may help you think and puts things into a new perspective.

4. Watch OPRAH- Sounds silly but Oprah is one of the biggest influencers on our world and generates topics on her show that hit home to a lot of people.

5. Stop thinking and start writing
- Let the topic come to you. Pressing your mind to think of a great topic will not help.  Kick back and enjoy other activities and then start again.

6. Look inside your Niche- There are always events, articles, press releases, and new ideas popping up in your area of expertise to find motivation.

7. Look outside your Niche
- Ever heard of the phrase “thinking outside the box?” This could be a situation where you can actually learn something new instead of writing about things you already know.

8. Google- Do a Google search of anything that you want or anything you might want to know.  You will be surprised on some topics you can come across.

9. Use your resources
- There are many different sites you could visit to help you on your blogging journey. Google, YouTube, Digg.com, Facebook, Twitter, are just a few places to turn to.

10. READ- Yes, that includes opening a book, newspaper, or blog.  Reading helps    generate ideas and trigger the mind.

Now that you have some places to turn to, there is no reason why a great blog topic isn’t jumping onto paper right now.  Remember to sit back, do your research and let the creativity juices flow.
